In addition to almost 200 inventory item artworks I got to paint for Disco Elysium, I got to design a number of props and vehicles too. Like Joyce’s private sloop, Netpicker’s boat that Kim and Harry take to the endgame area. The boombox and the flashlight. And Kras Mazov’s bust! I blatantly ripped off a famous Marx sculpture.

The foldable fence/barrier came from a very practical need. Namely the aforementioned flashlight gave the player control over a directed dynamic light in Unity, but our renderer didn’t play well with very fine detail so scrapping the chain link fence was a quicker route. This articulated environment prop is the most Half Life’y/Dishonored’y thing in the whole game I think.

The Tape Player Harmon Wowshi W02. Concept for the boombox Harry could purchase from the Pawnshop in Martinaise.

The in-game description reads:
“This is the reel-to-reel boombox of everyone's youth. A little banged-up, a little chipped, and honestly, not that loud either. Looks cool, though. Excels at being carried on the shoulder, allowing you to play audio tape items and blast music into the face of unsuspecting strangers.”

The flashlight Harry can find in Kim Kitsuragi’s Coupris Kineema. Should double as a baton in a pinch. As I was designing it I imagined it having a dynamo that would allow you to charge its battery on the go - I’m glad it made it into writing as well. I think I made the model and texture too, but perhaps that was Markus Härma.
The in game description reads:
“A police flashlight bearing the logo of Grundstellung RAO. The small dynamo packed inside this hand-held illumination device theoretically gives you the ability to produce a tiny amount of electricity any time anywhere.“
